Intro

On the 4th of November, 2008, Rick and Debbie van de Merwe will be temporarily leaving British shores for a taste of adventure. They have spent months planning, saving and generally getting very excited as they plan their carefully constructed route. This really is the good old cliche of 'the trip of a lifetime'.

Travelling through over 20 countries, in a 4 month period, Rick and Debbie also plan to spend 3 months in South Africa - the country of Rick’s birth.

They’ll be challenged by rough terrain, exotic locations, a very long drive and the lack of a decent bed or hot water. And yet this hasn't stopped them from grinning inanely or wishing away the next 5 months… Plus this could be their only 'window of opportunity' while they can still afford fuel!

This web site will be updated regularly, before, during and even after their trip. Once on the road they'll be updating photos and Debbie will be writing a travel journal and even a few stories (she’s a writer). But until then timbuktoo.co.uk will keep you up to date with news and preparations.
